Sports fans everywhere rejoice, College Football officially kicks off tonight! Florida State doesn’t play until Saturday but there are still games today and that’s better than nothing. Here’s the schedule for Week 1. If you are like me, every summer when the NBA season calls it quits in mid-June, I find myself clinging to tennis tournaments like the US Open and Wimbledon like there’s no tomorrow. Golf helps too. But nothing really fills the void until the first college teams kickoff.
My team, Florida State, plays Saturday at 6:00 p.m. against Murray State. The Noles are expected to have a “good” year. But I’ve got to be honest, I’m not holding my breath. Our team has been ‘rebuilding’ since I walked on campus in 2001. However, I will remain optimistic about our season. Everyone else seems to be. Check out these polls from the AP and USA Today, they both rank us 7th. Pretty good. But last year the AP had FSU 6th, and the USA Today Coaches’ Poll thought we were good enough to be ranked 5th… that was before we took the field. The season wasn’t so pretty. Fast forward. We didn’t even place in the final BCS poll. However, this year even ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit thinks we’re good! He picked FSU to win the National Championship. See it for yourself here.
Well, I hope he’s right. The Championship game is being played Monday, January 7, 2013, and it just so happens to be at Sun Life Stadium in my new hometown of Miami! So if the Noles get their act together and can make a run for a title, you can bet I’ll be there and my boyfriend Josh and he’ll be dealing with me screaming all game long.
To kickoff the season here’s a great new ESPN commercial with Mr. Jimbo Fisher himself. Go Noles.
